Tolima Snowy Peak

The Nevado del Tolima is considered the most difficult mountain in the Los Nevados National Park. Its steep slopes are a challenge for the most experienced adventurers as well as for the novice who intends to conquer it. Accompanied by expert guides from our team, you will be able to reach the summit of this symbolic mountain in the Pijao territory. You will face 5,250 meters of altitude that your heart and mind, with your inner power, can conquer.

Route description

You will spend five days pushing your body to reach the summit of Nevado del Tolima (5,250 meters above sea level). Starting from Ibagué, you will ascend the "boquerones" of Las Nieves and Mesetas, and then relax in hot springs. Afterwards, you will ascend to Camp 4600 and then to the summit via the western slope, known as the Helipad Route, facing the harsh weather conditions. It will be a challenging experience, but one that you can definitely achieve. View map.

After spending the night at Ukuku Rural Lodge (Juntas), we will take the road towards Escuela El Salto (Quebrada Las Perlas). It will be a strenuous journey with very steep slopes, approximately 8 hours long.

El Salto School - Canyon Thermal. An acclimatization day. We will cross through the Mesetas pass. Approximately 5 hours.

Another trekking to Campamento 4600 that will serve as acclimatization for us.

Ascending to the summit via the western slope or Heliport Route, and returning to the thermal waters. It will be a journey starting at 2:00 am, lasting approximately 12 hours.

You depart to Juntas very early in the morning following the same path as the ascent. Approximately 8 hours.

The Palomar Route

Route description

For five days, we will first visit the Palomar valley and its iconic mountain, La Teta de Juanbeima, before exploring the Anzoátegui lagoon complex: Laguna Bomboná and Vancouver. Afterwards, we will relax in the hot springs of Cañón, and then make our way to the high-altitude camp at 4,600 meters above sea level.

We will wake up early to face the western slope. The summit will be waiting for us if we overcome the rigor of the mountain.View map.

Ibagué - Palomar. It's a long journey by vehicle. We'll be staying at the Villa Lucia hostel.

We will hike from Palomar to Vancouver farm through the high Andean forest and golden paramo of the Tolima snowy valleys. We will visit Bomboná lagoon and camp at Vancouver farm, and perhaps we will be able to visit Vancouver lagoon.

Vancouver Farm-Cañón Hot Springs-4,600m Camp, the latter will be a place to rest and acclimate for the ascent that awaits us.

Summit-Hot Springs of Cañón. Starting early in the morning, the summit awaits us. We will ascend through the western slope or Heliport Route, and then rest in the hot springs.

Canyon Hot Springs-Juntas-Ibagué. After a relaxing thermal bath and a night of rest, a long descent to the town of Juntas awaits us, through a tough mule trail, for about eight hours through different types of vegetation. The adventure will end in Juntas, and if you wish, we can provide transportation by vehicle to the city of Ibagué.

Salento Route

Route description

It will be a four-day adventure with physical demands, starting in Salento. The next day we will begin the hike from Cocora Valley through canyons, forests, and paramo, with a demanding ascent. We will spend two nights at La Playa farm and one night at Campamento 4600. The ascent to the summit will be long and demanding, starting at 2:00 am. The summit will be the objective. View map

After meeting up and spending the night in Salento, we will take an express jeep to the Cocora Valley. From there, we will begin the ascent to Finca La Playa, where we will spend the night in shared accommodation. It will be an approximately nine-hour demanding hike.

We will ascend to Campamento 4600, in the area known as Arenales.

At 2:00 am we will depart for the summit, an demanding ascent through steep terrain, then over rocks and finally the glacier, the gateway to the summit. It will be a long day to return back to La Playa.

We will descend from Finca La Playa back to the Cocora Valley to have a delicious and nutritious trout lunch, and then take an express jeep back to Salento where the expedition will end.
